This summer, Chichester Cathedral invites you to be part of a vibrant season of exhibitions and activities for all ages. With a wide range of free and fun experiences - both within the Cathedral and throughout the city – this is the perfect time for families, visitors and locals to explore the Cathedral quarter and beyond.
If you haven’t yet discovered our 950th anniversary exhibition, now is the perfect time before it closes in November. Religion, Rebellion & Reformation shares the story of the Christian faith in Sussex, revealed through people, events and artefacts, from 1075 to the present day.

If visiting as a family, pick up a free children’s trail featuring Wilfrid the Seal, who will help you explore the treasures on display in the exhibition. Ideal for all ages, the trail also has fun games, activities, and a recipe to try back at home. Trail forms can be collected from the Visitors' Desk and everyone that takes part can pick up a free Chichester950 sticker from the Cathedral Shop.

Whilst exploring, take a moment to look up and marvel at our striking new art installation, Fish950. This vibrant display features more than 950 fish-shaped artworks, created by Year 6 pupils, aged 10-11 years-old, from schools across the Diocese of Chichester. Floating above the Cathedral Nave, the waves of colour will be on show until Sunday 31 August 2025. Find out more about the creation of this community artwork here.
For a different type of spectacle, why not book a Spire Visit to enjoy panoramic views of Chichester with vistas stretching to Goodwood, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, on a clear day. Newly launched this year, the journey upwards is just as rewarding as the view itself with wonderful glimpses of ancient stonework and skilled joinery rarely seen by the public. Spire Visits take place Wednesday to Saturday throughout the summer. Places are limited so pre-book here to avoid disappointment. Due to the steep climb and narrow spaces, the spire visits are not suitable for all so please read the full terms and conditions before booking.

Once you’ve finished soaking in the wonderful architecture, art, and history of the Cathedral, you can refuel at Cloisters Kitchen & Garden or pick up some delicious food from one of the city’s many eateries and enjoy a picnic on the green or in the picturesque Bishop’s Palace Gardens - the perfect place to relax in the sun whilst giving little feet plenty of room to play.
Finally, a great way to explore the city and find out more about its history is with the new Chichester950 Code Breaker Trail. This free trail features eight sculptures inspired by our anniversary symbols and created by students of Chichester College. Follow the trail to discover a letter at each of the eight locations and then use the trail’s code breaker to reveal a mystery word. All correct entries will be added to a special prize draw to win an amazing hamper of goodies for the whole family to enjoy! Organised by Chichester BID, the trail runs until Monday 1 September and trail maps can be downloaded here.

P.S. Look out for our new Bug-thedral near the West Entrance, created with local school children this special project offers an eco-friendly sanctuary for mini beasts as well as being a tribute to our 950 years in Chichester.
The Cathedral is open from Monday – Saturday 9.00am – 5.00pm and on Sunday from 12.30pm – 2.30pm. Entry is free to visit, with a suggested donation of £7.00 per person. Plan your visit here.
